Please note: Dates for Module 2 in 2020 have changed to 3 August to 21 August inclusive. Hip module (3 – 13 August 2020) and Infection, Inflammation and Professional topics (14 – 21 August 2020).
The Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association (PIOA) was formed to promote and develop modern orthopaedic surgical care in the Islands of the South Pacific.
The association was established in Honiara, Solomon Islands and has trainees from nine Pacific Island countries. (Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, Kiribati, Federated states of Micronesia, Timor Leste and Vanuatu). See map below for locations of our members and trainees.
PIOA welcomes enquiries from orthopaedic surgeons who wish to become members.
The next module – “Introduction”, “Spine” and “Research” will be held at the TTM Hospital, Apia , Samoa from 23 March to 10 April 2020.
PIOA welcomed 5 new trainees in 2019. They are Haynes Rasin, Bohu Urakoko and Viola Kokiva (aal from PNG), Juvencio Dias from Timor Leste and Reshwin Rajan from Solomon Islands.
Applications to commence training in 2020 close on 31 October 2019.
On 6 March 2020, the PIOA training committee decided to cancel the Apia module scheduled to commence on 23 March. Since we made the decision the Australian government placed a ban on overseas travel for all residents. This ban was then extended by many other countries.
